Are there any psychologests here who can give a prediction on how half the nation calling him a chicken on the tariffs would impact someone as narcassistic and afraid of being called a chicken as he is?
Here is what AI says about this:
🧠 How a Malignant Narcissist Might React to "TACO"
Malignant narcissism combines traits of:
Narcissism (fragile ego, need for admiration)
Antisocial behavior (manipulation, disregard for others)
Paranoia (perceived enemies everywhere)
Aggression (vindictiveness, retaliation)
1. Rage Reaction
They would likely experience narcissistic injurya deep wound to their egotriggering narcissistic rage. Public humiliation (especially being called weak or cowardly) could lead to impulsive or vindictive behavior.
Expected Response: Aggressive counterattack, possibly mocking or demonizing those using the tag. He may fixate on the insult and escalate confrontation to reassert dominance.
2. Overcompensation
They may attempt to "prove" strength through extreme or attention-grabbing actions. For Trump, this might include:
Doubling down on controversial policies (e.g., tariffs, immigration)
Making drastic economic or foreign policy moves to appear tough
Refusing to back down, even if it harms the country, just to win
Real Risk: He could reintroduce aggressive tariffs (e.g., on China) or engage in economic brinksmanship specifically to contradict the "chickens out" narrative.
3. Blame-Shifting and Gaslighting
A person with these traits rarely takes responsibility. If tariffs hurt the economy, they'd likely:
Blame China, the Fed, or Biden
Say the media is lying about economic fallout
Reframe the damage as "necessary to fight unfair trade"

He's as stable as someone carrying a crate of dynamite through a gas station using a propane torch for light.
And spraying bug repellent at the same time.
Nothing matters but
A. Grift, and
B. A fall guy for anything and everything that goes wrong.

(54,593 posts)Hasn't he already changed the tariffs about 50 times? He is insane at this point and he is dangerous and must be removed and destroyed before he destroys what little is left of this country.

(2,156 posts)Sufficient attention span or stamina to actually accomplish much of anything, so it seems highly unlikely he will all of a sudden get up the gumption to (again) reverse himself and overpower all those, including nominal public supporters, who understand what a foolish, destructive "idea" ("idee fixe," more aptly) this was.
Not saying no worries, but it seems like a mighty steep hill for this wimp to climb.

(2,369 posts)Why do we give one damn what AI says?
Heres the simple fact that takes no analyst, psychologist, and certainly NO AI EVER to understand: the demented despot has always done the most destructive, dysfunctional, cruel thing he can conceive of. Whether he is mocked or not, bootlicked or not, fought or not, complied with in advance or not, he will murder, destroy the economy, decimate our infrastructure, and end the balances and rights that have given America a good 250 year run. Worrying will do you no good. Survive, fight, and save who you can. Thats the only path forward.

(31,123 posts)Seriously, anyone who knows a narcissist is going to expect the same thing. I was anticipating AI was going to say something like this because it's just common sense. AI just articulates it better. Go to any psychology website and look up how narcissists react to being made fun of and it's going to say they are going to try and compensate. It's not rocket science. Lol

I'm not at all sure that 'prodding the cornered beast' on this particular front ... Is the smartest of plays.
Realize that a lot of people have gotten to the point where (they think anyway) that they just don't care ...
Nonetheless - they almost certainly should !
If you think this situation can't be driven any further into the basement - you are deeply, deeply mistaken.

We should not pull our punches, and TACO sticks because it's perfectly true. So don't worry: TACO.

(6,086 posts)It was criticized because it was interpreted as capitulation and acting too nice out of fear. That wasn't my point. There are a million ways to criticize and mock Trump without pushing him to his worst impulses.

(474 posts)I think this one way is a tiny little dagger, but literally everything sends him into one of his demented, narcissistic rages. I'm not quite ready to tiptoe and accede just yet.

(53,367 posts)It's certainly headed in that direction anyway. My real fear for getting through this 4-year reign of terror is a medical catastrophe. If another virulent, communicable illness hits, there are no adults in the room to try to stop it. We've got brain worm boy and a surgeon general nominee who's into magic mushrooms.

(6,321 posts)Is there a specific reason people think this particular direction of lampooning is measurably different in consequence?
stopdiggin
(15,042 posts)Because this specifically targets Trump reversing himself - after obvious, insupportable and damaging blunders. And it should be fairly obvious why that should not be discouraged. Right? I mean, is the message here that we really want him to stick by - all of those really shitty decisions? Course corrections, BAD?
So, YES - there is a reason ...
Torchlight
(6,321 posts)I don't see evidence, or even potential of a measurable difference between this particular reversal versus all his other failures, defeats, backtracks, walkbacks, and empty excuses.
Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Trump wearing more makeup than Chappell Roan ...
Mockery of multiple Trump idiocies and foibles - do not redound on backlash and specific harm to the nation.
Urging him to 'stand strong' on a ridiculous trade war and tariff structure - most certainly DOES.

(6,321 posts)Which is the only common denominator.
Simply stating "A happened, B didn't" isn't really supporting any causation, only that A happened and B didn't. Not being a nickel-and-dime-psychiatrist, I presume most five year old's, like Mr. trump, don't have the patience to deconstruct the various levels of nuance in lampoonery.
There's a hidden irony in there, I think.
stopdiggin
(15,042 posts)beyond that the trade war is ridiculous and does damage. (and counts as virtual common knowledge)
Trump (nor any other) should not be encouraged in such folly. Full stop.
It is you who appears to want to construct some argument based on 'causation' and effect.

(12,389 posts)I'm on the Tim Walz side of things: Time to bully the bully.
Also, time to stop worrying about what the bully might do.
Why?
He's already doing IT, as in dismantling our governing institutions.
I don't give a rat's ass about how Trump may react because his reactions in all things are erratic and irrational.
Appeasement never works with people like Trump for whom enough is never enough.
When a bully smacks you in the head? You smack him back, harder.
When an opponent enters the ring with a knife offering them a cup of tea and furry slippers doesn't work. Unless you're looking to be disemboweled.
The taco meme upsets little Donnie?

(266 posts)I told a friend of mine that I wanted the 2x impeached, sexual abusing, 34x felon to do his worst. I wanted him to do everything he campaigned on and make it hurt especially the red states.
Right now most people aren't seeing the damage that was predicted - empty shelves, soaring inflation and high interest rates, rise in unemployment and a crashing stock market.
These predictions are starting to sound like the Y2K warnings where was every computer on earth was going to stop working. This caused people to build bunkers and load them with food to ride out the ensuing chaos.
The TACO meme should make him less likely to continue this as everytime he does people should start clucking and calling him chicken.
He will hate this and become less likely to change his mind and more likely to inflict the damage that everyone has been waring about.
That's when the mask comes down and people wake up.
Having said that, we also need the democrats to pull their head out of their ass.
