(9,371 posts)that an administration which spends so much time and energy reaching out to the anti-Semitic white nationalist crowd are so gung ho to attack anti-Semites that they characterize as being on the left.

(1,355 posts)Just as a weapon to attack leftists because unfortunately the people doing the current news making stuff are generally leftist like college students. Obviously no idea where the guy in Colorado falls on the political spectrum, but in general. In the 80s and 90s it was very prominently the right wing extension of other racism. The current left wing antisemitism to me seems to me to be an extension a general anti-colonialism and the understanding of structural racism inherently meaning only the powerful can be racist/wrong so there's a section of people on the left who move into antisemitism from that without understanding reality is often nuanced, but for Republicans that worldview also fits into their anti-woke anti-social justice attacks. I don't think Trump or Republicans actually care other than it is an easy target and it helps distract from their own racism. Not that it excuses antisemitism on the left of course.
Granted I could be overthinking things or talking out my ass, but that's a quick version of why I think Republicans are acting like they care but it's just a strategic decision. It also doesn't help that Netenyahu is a Trump ally and right winger where they can have a mutual back scratching.
