I simply cannot fathom the level of hate that these assholes have towards other people. It's truly unbelieveable.

I think that's what is so very shocking to those of us who have hearts and minds and any degree of compassion.

I was just having a discussion with a Trumper over the cuts to Medicaid and he was LITERALLY justifying having Trump's miliary parade over spending that money on children who will go hungry.

I don't give a rat's ass if a child is my color, another color, another race, another planet, another gender, another religion, whatever - I don't want ANYONE to have to go hungry or be sick in a country that has the resources to feed them and care for them.

THAT IS WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT.

when the GOP establishment discovered racism was the perfect tool for breaking up the Democratic, solid south. Ironically, the same Republicans LBJ enlisted to pass the Civil Rights Act when the southern wing of his party revolted. I doubt those Republicans were thinking that far ahead but that's how it played out.

Especially when they go to church on Sunday and their kids sing about how "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world." This hatred goes back to Calvinist theology of predestination and the "elect" that evangelicals supposedly reject. But really don't. For decades they've rolled with a lighter version of Calvin and Knox that they'd never admit to publicly. Until now. Today they admit to it. Not a revelation for some of us. We've known who they were all along.

They do value their families. They do not realize the long term detrimental effects of their policies.

They do value justice. However it has gotten a bit warped towards authoritarianism. This is especially true for maga who add in an unhealthy dose of racism.

They do love their country in reflexive unthinking form of patriotism. It leads them to authoritarianism because that offers simple solutions (wrong solutions) to complex problems.

All-or-nothing thinking leads to nowhere good.

Sun May 25, 2025, 02:17 PM
May 2025

Um, excuse me, but how is voting for someone found guilty of 34 felonies valuing justice? How is voting for somebody found guilty of sexual assault in a New York Court valuing justice? How is voting for someone who had to shell out millions to settle his fraudulent Trump University scam valuing justice?? Then there’s the children’s charity scam, housing discrimination against African-Americans, calling for the death penalty for the Central Park 5 who were exonerated, etc., etc. They voted for this person. Valuing justice demanded a different response.

No one is disputing that they value their own families. It’s just whether they value the families of those getting deported that comes into question.

We agree: Convicted felons have no place in the Oval Office.

But maga are Right Wing Authoritarian Followers. Their sense of justice first and foremost simplified, because 1) Simple solutions appeal to them more even if they are wrong because they don't have the patience (and too often not enough intelligence). 2) They are RWAF for the reasons in point 1 and the result is that they feel just should be tilted towards themselves, that the leader is not often wrong, and Judges are stupid because they follow complex reasoning and not simple "common sense". Racism also warps their search towards simpler solutions when combined with their lack of empathy.

And yes, on families, it is always their families, not the families of the wider community because they don't have the empathy or the broader more enlightened understanding that enables progressives and Democrats to care about wider communities.

and I get that you are trying to see things from their vantage point, but if injustice is commonly defined as "a lack of fairness or justice, meaning a situation or action where people are not treated equally or where rights are violated" then it is injustice they are valuing. not justice. When they have no problem voting for a racist who said of Haitian-Americans, "They're eating the dogs, they're eating the cats", then it's racism they are valuing, not "treating others equally and honoring their rights", aka justice.

They have read the Bible and know that bearing false witness is a sin, so when TCF is convicted 34 times of essentially lying by falsifying business records they know that essentially amounts to bearing false witness. I would think they would agree with the cadet honor code, which states that, "A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do". Applying a Trump exception to that code, shows a departure from any common sensical sense of right and wrong, in favor of a cult leader they look up to because they so love his resentment/hatred of the marginalized, so much so that they are willing to overlook the harm he has caused. As a result, they can just apply a Trump exception to any such honor codes, and by doing so they turn toward injustice, not justice.

Housing discrimination in the 1970's against African'-Americans, calling for the death penalty for the Central Park 5, cheating people (Trump University scam and Trump University scam), sexually assaulting E. Jean Carroll are and then defaming her are all examples of injustice, which MAGAs give TCF a pass on, thereby turning themselves towards injustice, not justice. If "valuing justice" gets so loosely defined to include disregarding injustice and to use your words, "tilt[ing] just towards themselves" then mob figures and many criminals and rapists "value justice".

"Name it to claim it" - a take off on "whatsoever you bind in Jesus name on earth is bound in heaven" The idea is God financially rewards the righteous. So if you are poor, sick, ugly, etc ... that is proof God is punishing you for wickedness.

Completely twisted and sick. But it has been around decades. And these are Trump's steadfast base. He could literally maul a disabled veteran in the middle of National Mall and these folks will praise Jesus for it.

One example that still makes me chuckle... In 1980 something on Testimony Sunday a "righteous" married woman who had 1 son and did not work stood up in front of the whole church to praise God for rewarding her faith with a new Cadillac. A few years later her husband went to jail for some sort of financial crimes and she lost her fancy new Cadi. Funny how she didn't hop up that year and praise God for "smiting the wicked".

I was channel surfing years ago and landed on the 700 club. Pat Robertson showed a video...

It was a warehouse district and a black van arrived. Out of the van poured armed men clad in black with black helmets. Cut to the inside of one of the warehouses. A group of white-robed, beautiful blonde young people were solemnly sitting in a circle with hands joined. They were praying. In comes the armed group and they open fire, killing all of the white-robed worshipers. Cut to Pat Robertson who says, "That is what Democrats will do to Christians".

I was and still am completely outraged. Robertson filled the airwaves with that garbage tax-free for years. No wonder the weak-minded fall prey to MAGA. They relate to the same conspiracies and paranoid madness.

I've often thought that much of our argument against MAGA shouldn't really be about politics but should be about Christianity. They are the ravening wolves in sheep's clothing who follows the antiChrist. And I'm not even Christian. 😀

The ability of people to use whatever propaganda tools are at their disposal to control the masses is really the issue.

I've maintained that people for the most part and good and decent as individuals , but as a herd are not very bright. It's why advertising works. The ability to push people was always with us. Pericles was great at it.

I don't know the answer. We want to keep the propaganda that pushes people to be better, more open ... and not the Pat Robertson kind. How? I don't know.

The far right hasn't been ginning up hate all this time, it's been ginning up fear of the other, fear of the unknown, fear of somehow being replaced in their own lifetime, that latter appealing especially to mediocre white males who have had the experience of being fired or laid off from multiple jobs. Mostly it's fear of nothing, but they don't know that.

What Democrats need to do is either address that fear and expose it as a bogeyman (a tall order) or replace it with a larger and more reality based fear: that the billionaires are out to make them slaves. Economic pressure on the 99% is rising rapidly enough now that it might just work.

Ten Rules for Being Human

Just don't talk to magats.
They are empty of compassion and integrity.
They are in a cult that seeks identity by not being "others" (a moving target as usual)

Never forget:
Strong and self-assured people lift others up.
Weak people try to cut others down to their size.

42. On top of being evil it will be bad for the economy

Food assistance goes to stores, farmers and food packagers. These evil idiots see the government budget like their own where dollars are limited. The federal government can go over budget cheaper than any one. And as Keynes said it is tge government's job to fulfill unmet demand to increase economic activity. That brought our postwar boom.

I didn't used to be able to fathom their hatred but now I hate them as much as they hate me.

The difference is they hate me because of who I am, I hate them because of what they do.

make the distinction:

My husband is an Ashkenazim Jew.
Stephen Miller is an Ashkenazim Jew.

I don't love my husband because he is a Jew - I love my husband because through his words and behavior he shows that he is a nice and fair person.
I don't hate Stephen Miller because he is a Jew - I hate Stephen Miller because though his words and behavior he shows that he is a nasty, cruel, vicious, and unfair person.

I was one of the biggest screamers on DU for Merrick Garland to DO SOMETHING when he had the chance. And I was constantly told "give him time".

That was the chance and we blew it.

The idiots who just couldn't STAND to vote for a WOMAN!

I actually have anger issues all the way back to Gore. I think of what could have been had he been President instead of the idiot Bush. Just think how much further we could have been on social issues, climate change, etc.

There's a part of me that believes that THAT time frame was the deciding factor for mankind. It was the millennium and mankind had a choice, and made the wrong one. Makes me sick.

They will say those children shouldn’t be here or their parents shouldn’t have brought them here or their parents are lazy moochers who shouldn’t have given birth to them. Then they will insist “both sides” yada yada.

I cannot abide a child going hungry or being sick and I don’t care what nationality that child is or how that child got here.

And now Dump wants to put an end to the law that states we are obligated to give food, water, soap, and toothpaste to unaccompanied minors. They want to deny them food and water!

Then they all wear big gold crosses around their necks and brag about being Christians!

investing so much more into what they hate than into what they love. And I get it: there's a visceral pleasure and immediate strength to hatred that a lot of people will either get off on, or just use as leverage for profit. I think there's a huge demo in the nation that gets frustrated when they see other people smiling. For any reason.
