That is probably 15 seconds more than Vance deserved
Snubbed: Pope gives JD Vance just 17 seconds â but has long meetings with other leaders https://twp.ai/4inky8

The vice president was in the Vatican to witness the popes inaugural mass. Afterward, he tried to speak to the leader of the Catholic church, who shook his hand but barely spoke in the 17-second encounter.
But the pope did meet behind closed doors with many other world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra.
The awkward greeting with Vance followed a sermon in which subtle digs were aimed at President Donald Trump's administration. Though he didn't name Trump, the pope talked about hatred, violence, prejudice, the fear of difference, and an economic paradigm that exploits the Earths resources and marginalizes the poorest.
It was widely considered to be a dig at Trumps immigration policies.
The pope has been openly critical of Vance, and penned an op-ed in which he slammed the vice president for saying caring for others should come after your own family is looked after.
JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesnt ask us to rank our love for others, he wrote.

(100,132 posts)I saw it restored on one of my nights watching the better bits of YouTube. Cant recall the name of the program (of course) but the theme was to do specialty repairs of old and beloved objects and incidentally preserve traditional skilled crafts in the young, a project of the former Prince of Wales, now King Charles. The people who do the show are of the older generation and very, very skilled indeed.
This painting was brought in by an elderly lady who along with her mother and sister had escaped Ukraine ahead of the Russian invasion by Stalin. It was a family heirloom the mother had saved it from the church where her husband was a priest. She removed the frame, rolled it up, and stitched it into the lining of a coat. The lady who brought it in, one of the daughters, her greatest desire was to see it returned to Ukraine, but she didnt know how that was to be done.
When brought to the program, it showed a lot of damage from its travels. With permission of the lady who owned it, the edges were preserved as-is, to show what kind of journey it had undergone, while the Madonna and Child in the center were fully restored.
I could be completely wrong but I think thats the one. And its going home.
