Most of the embedded images in modern web pages are actually generated on reference - not fixed images. erronis May 2025 #3

BlueSky, X, FB, etc. don't make it easy to copy images (or even text) from their sites. erronis May 2025 #5

So, what I do is capture the image displayed on the screen. In Firefox that is Ctrl-Shft-S and choose the appropriate area. Then I do a copy (into the clipboard) and paste the image into another web page that will store the image as a permanent JPG - I use https://imgur.com but there are others. Then I get the URL from that page and paste it into the DU post.

It's a 5-6 step process but it has almost become muscle memory for me. If I was ambitious I'd automate it with Selenium or some such web tool.

Let me know if you'd like me to write this up more fully and for other browsers.

usually when I click "copy image link" and paste, the image shows up here. I guess bluesky doesn't use regular image urls?

All of them generate the images on the fly from database records. That also gives them control and knowledge over who is accessing them. One of the reasons I try to stay away from places like the Xitter....

I really wish everyone who is not MAGA would leave Xitter. There is no reason to keep using it.
Within a year, another platform would have the same users.
