I fear that we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

The executive orders are the most visible thing he does, so we hear about most of those. But the Dept of Homeland Security is also gearing up for some attacks on the citizens of our country.

We've seen some arrests of elected officials and judges. There are about to be more.

They are considering ending Habeus Corpus. They will arrest members of congress who resist it.

They are expanding ICE. They have been denying due process to deportees since he came into office. They will arrest US citizens who are disloyal to Trump and deport us to countries ruled by warlords.

Just as they ignore Congress, they are ignoring the Courts as much as they can get away with.

of my thinking every single day. Really, "not this shit again" comes around almost every day around here. Us old hippies did get old and there was no one to follow. I hope they get out there before it is too late. My old joints won't do what we did back then but we would all still do what we can.

Us geezers have time to do every protest. They younger people make it when we have weekend events, and LOTS of them drive by giving us happy honks, waves, thumbs up when we are along roads during rush hour.

And it is sometimes reassuring to be out front of the house when even younger kids are walking to their school bus stops. There are some pretty young Americans who watch, listen, and have some pretty encouraging discussions amongst themselves, if you get a chance to putter in the front yard and quietly eavesdrop.

He has eviscerated our Constitution, thrown thousands or millions out of work and into poverty, denied children Head Start, thrown innocent people into prisons or deported them without just cause or due process, kneeled down to foreign leaders who want to destroy our democracy...I could go on and on, but I am preaching to the choir here.

Why can't this evil bastard JUST DIE???!!!

There’s only a relatively small number of HS guys compared to a national population of over 350 million. Federal law enforcement in total isn’t designed for this. The vast majority of law enforcement is state and local and not under DCs jurisdiction. My state will tell them to fuck off.

Stay strong. Stay pissed not afraid.

Sometimes I think there’s something deep in the human psyche that goes out of its way to be afraid. We’ll make up fears from whole cloth if we have to. The left is just as guilty of it as the right.

As for state and local law enforcement, I live in blue America. We don’t enforce fascism around here. Red state mileage may vary.

That's the MO here. The rapist has been backlogging courts for years and that's going to continue to happen as he and his criminal cadres double down on the bad.

is chilling and shockingly familiar. Lots of examples of authoritarian governments, kings, polarization, domination, death through the centuries and all over the globe. I'm still digesting my sense of foreboding when learning about these...and sense that we (USA and wider) are on the wrong but well-worn path. Super sad. (Can't yet describe how similar some of the early official 3rd Reich decrees are to current US executive orders)

Lots of clear-eyed rebellion and awareness in the young-ish neighborhoods we've been in, so...uplifting but at the same time the messages of resistance constantly underline the problems facing the US, Gaza, Ukraine, Berlin, and others. Esp for marginalized groups

Even as a frequent DU reader, very good to be in a place where issues of justice are near the surface and discussed. The need for urgency is clear.
