Oh NO! OMG NO! OMFG SAY THIS ISN'T TRUE! "Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' plunged into chaos as House GOP fights"

'Hell no!' Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' plunged into chaos as House GOP fights

https://www.rawstory.com/hell-no-trump-s-big-beautiful-bill-still-in-chaos-as-house-gop-squabbles/

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who is at the helm of the negotiations, "has said repeatedly over the last few months that he is in the 'consensus-building business.' But as markups begin today, an objective view of the landscape is that Johnson does not have consensus," Sherman wrote.

Republicans can only lose three votes in the House on the finished product — and there are way more unsatisfied Republicans than that currently.

One of the biggest problems is that, even though the bill sharply cuts Medicaid, which itself is a matter of bitter contention among swing-district Republicans and a handful of hard red-state populists, it still isn't seen to be a big enough cut by the hardliners.

"The House Freedom Caucus is putting the onus on GOP leadership to make 'very aggressive changes' to the reconciliation package before it comes to the floor. Many conservatives have asked for at least $2 trillion in cuts," noted the report. "These HFC-backed changes – more Medicaid cuts, a total repeal of IRA clean energy credits and 'deficit neutrality' – would have to happen during today’s trio of committee markups or the Rules Committee." Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), one of the hardliners, says he cannot back the bill as written.

My red state, Texas, is extremely oppressive
in every possible way when it comes to
reproductive healthcare and education.

So is Florida.

I can't imagine anyone studying medicine
in Texas, for example, going for a field in OB.

"Why don't you guys fight it out instead?" is always so satisfying when it happens, the combatants beating each other bloody and senseless while the bystander ends up with the spoils.

The GOP's gilded age of a fascist dictatorship is turning into a gigantic clusterfuck and they know it.

Is Mikey even sure what that looks like because I'm not convinced. I don't think he could put two Lego blocks together without talking to President Psychopath first. Who probably doesn't know what a Lego looks like.

When does the mud wrasslin' commence? That's what I'm hoping for because it can't be too far away.

Such a weird name for a bill, but I think Trump wants the acronym "BBB" because it is the same as Biden's Build Back Better.

Hopefully a few republicans will stand their ground on this one, but I'm not holding my breath.

It's wonderfully entertaining to watch Republicans screw each other over the budget bill. But I'd trade the entertainment for a good budget bill that preserves Medicaid. If Medicaid cuts are eventually successful, lots of places will lose their local hospital, my county included. We have a small town hospital that has been acquired by a regional network, leaving us with a lab, imaging, physical therapy, emergency room, and doctors' offices -- all of which will likely vanish if Medicaid is substantially cut. Our local nursing facility is likely to go away too. Painful to contemplate. It's maddening to be at the mercy of people who view government services as inherently evil, even when they do good.

If they would have gotten into the nitty-gritty they might have found some legitimate cuts that few could argue with. Instead they use committee time for DEI culture war. GOP is a failure as a governing party.
