https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/04/27/world/asia/china-products-us-tariffs-trump.htmlI am sorry it's behind a paywall for many. But basically, a great percentage of what we have in our home comes from China. And the things that are now manufactured in other countries, are tariffed too. There is no way Trump's actions don't end badly.
Should President Trump’s extraordinarily high new tariffs on Chinese products remain in effect, the added cost will likely get passed on to companies and ultimately consumers. While the Trump administration has expressed optimism about a deal to cut the tariffs, even lower ones could have far-reaching effects.

(9,212 posts)You can list things you don't need to be taken and get things for free. You have to go to pick them up though etc. Plants and things like that too. I have not gotten anything from them yet but I gave things away I didn't need. One of my friend's used to get most of her furniture for free from the side of the road. It is unbelievable what people throw out here.
I worry about mold etc. though on some items left outside.

(24,156 posts)While it won’t be good for people’s living standards here, hopefully at least other countries can benefit in the longer term.

(25,165 posts)It’s amazing how many free things I get. I’ve found brand new toasters unopened in boxes, furniture, bedding unopened. Usually we donate to charities, Etc. I hope people start going to flea markets more and sell the stuff in their homes they no longer need to pass on. As these shortages will occur it will be interesting to see if people become more resourceful with what they have and pass it on instead of it ending up in a landfill!.
