The Naval Academy cancelled a freakin' Ken Burns documentary showing, not because of the content, but because Burns had been critical of Trump

(70,163 posts)... privileged, narrow minded segment of the Navy when I was in. They either wanted out asap because they were resume polishing with the academy education or they had plans to be the third or fourth generation Naval retiree,

(78,957 posts)It was a newer branch of the service, so not the long standing tradition, pomp and circumstance.
Not a lot of older retired types.
Officers were more laid back and low key.
Smart, practical, just doing their jobs.
Not a lot of military trappings or protocol.
The military sucking up to the orange hitler is making me sick.

(57,413 posts)But their thin-skinned Shitler must have his revenge on any who says the mildest criticism--even if that revenge denies our service men and women a thoughtful history lesson on the American Revolution. They don't care about our soldiers, they just care about Trump's feelings.

(7,911 posts)Got an honorable discharge in 1971.
Those I served with on the destroyer USS Sampson, DDG 10, all men at that time, served honorably to a man. We took our oath seriously, and did a damn good job carrying out orders.
I never heard any of my shipmates praise Lyndon Johnson or Richard Nixon - or say anything at all about them. We had a job to do and we did it.
It is baffling and disappointing to see today's Navy bow down to an unqualified draft dodger. Things have apparently changed.
