1. Never get involved in a land war in Asia
2. Never get into a big dick contest with China

(Yes, I'm a weirdo, watched switch engines putting trains together when I was a kid, watched container ports in action as an adult, so sue me)

The local guys were experts at the flying switch and would get a whole bunch of cars all rolling at the same time and then run around throwing the switches.

(114,398 posts)and the engineer was bored out of his mind and taking his lunch break. I think he was shocked and delighted to find a little girl who knew the difference between diesel and trains that went choo choo and wasn't intimidated by big, greasy machinery.
All the other girls I knew were fragile little flowers who played with dolls.
Good for you. I rode in many a locomotive cab in my youth and hopped a few freights.

... my concern is he sets the bar so high for unacceptable criminality, so high that I can see a future time with a mass murderer pleading for lighter sentencing because after all it wasn't as if he were Mango Jebus.

(4,482 posts)Which country are you talking about? If you are in the US well, if TSF could run us down with tanks he would. Until then he will remove food and healthcare from the poor, dismantle the economy for all and send our scientists running to other countries. He is refusing to test food and drugs and when problems are discovered refuses to say which manufacturer has the problem. We have hit the bottom of the outhouse hole, simply waiting for that last blast of diarrhea to complete the process.

(7,593 posts)When a ship docks in port, they are charged a port due based on either the gross or net tonnage of the ship. Tonnage in this context is a measure of volume and not of weight.
Ports also charge a goods fee based on the type of good being loaded or unloaded. This may be per ton (weight in this context, not volume) if it is a bulk good or will be per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) if it is containerized. If a ship (un)loads a container, it's going to contribue to their TEU whether it has anything in it or not.
There are then a bunch of other fees that are added on - pilatage fees, early/late arrival fees, crane fees, etc...
No ship is arriving in the United States and being $0 in fees.

So many people go out of their way to look clever in these days of clicks & monetization. They look ridiculous instead.

(1,521 posts)While I certainly like Trump getting roasted and humiliated, how good is their economy actually? Like other dictatorships, they like to prop up and say everything is good. I don't know if I believe that China is doing well economically. I've seen people post that China is not doing financially well. While I certainly think China can probably handle a tariff war, the question is, how well is it actually doing? I would take this with a huge grain of salt. I don't trust what the Chinese government is saying. That being said however, it is very ironic that the MAGA hats were all made in China, yet they say America First. Lots of stuff are. Invading China? Good luck with that.
