HOUSTON - A flight from Houston to New York had to be evacuated after an engine issue forced it to abort takeoff, according to the FAA.
The FAA says that the crew of United Airlines Flight 1382 had to stop their takeoff from George Bush Intercontinental/Houston Airport due to a "reported engine issue" around 8:35 a.m. on Sunday.
Video acquired by FOX 26 Houston from someone on the plane shows the wing of the United Airlines plane on fire.
Passengers had to use stairs and the emergency slide to get off of the plane, according to the Houston Fire Department. Video shows a group of fliers standing on the Tarmac.

(49,001 posts)Maybe we can convince Trump's press secretary that if we change the names of the airports to Democratically elected presidents, there wouldn't be confusion at these airports?

(27,073 posts)Incidents like these (plane catches fire, incident with tug and airplane wing at ORD) happen all the time. As in daily. It's just that most of the time they get zero mention in the press. Except after and accident, like the one at DCA, every single trivial incident gets reported for the next three weeks.
Trust me on this. I was a ticket agent at DCA for ten years.

(27,073 posts)Small planes crash with astonishing frequency. Mostly from pilot error, because they are not that experienced, that well trained. The plane that crashed in Philly was exactly one of those kinds of flights.
So, not two commercial crashes back to back, but one commercial crash, one private plane crash.
Again, if you are not in some way connected to the industry, you have no clue how often minor incidents occur. Well, okay, that small jet crash was exactly minor, but I cannot repeat enough that it was not a commercial flight. And that small planes go down regularly.

"First this crash and now Philly?" she asked. "You can't tell me they're not connected."
"Yeah," said her husband. "Someone's working hard to make Trump look bad."
Me: ...
People are hoping for the "FAFO" effect, that is to say that things will get so bad that people will regret supporting Trump. You just gave us a perfect example of what will really happen. No matter how bad things get, they won't blame Trump. They will blame us, Trump's opponents. This is really important for people to understand.

(64,611 posts)A few days ago a friend posted a comment along the lines of "they will pay any price to remain loyal to him as long as he continues to hurt the people that they want to see get hurt."
That "price" includes their own suffering, as long as some brown person somewhere is suffering more.

(1,622 posts)Incidents like these, as common as they may be, when happening in the context of a madman's attacks on government agencies changes people's perceptions, and people's perceptions matter. At some point in this chaos your reassurances, however well informed, will fall on deaf ears.
People's trust in the system is it the same thing as the trustworthiness of the system, and civilized society depends upon a general agreement to follow the rules and support the system. That is breaking down. "Okay everyone, listen up" and "trust me I was an insider" doesn't work in this situation.

(19,912 posts)I won't start any fake news, but I'll air negative opinions every single chance I get. I have a relative who is a commercial pilot. Any news about airline or airplane mishaps increases my worry about his safety. I understand that there are mishaps and small plane crashes every day, but since there has been news of this kind daily, since Thursday, on top of the takeover of the government and ousting employees, adding costs to imported items, threatening wars with at least 3 countries, I am not in a good mood. I don't want to be reasonable, and I don't want to try to see both sides.

(10,637 posts)not a big deal. Captain turns off the fuel to the engine, arms a Fire extinguisher in the engine and discharges it. If that doesn't do it, they discharge a second one. If that doesn't do it, the ARFF pull up and immediately use one of their monitors to overwhelm the engine by directing a stream of Foam directly into the front and/or back of the engine......

(19,912 posts)was in charge, the news was on top every event. There was the story about the plane manufacturers hiding things, whistleblowers dying, and other 'interesting' coverage.
Maybe these airplane crashes and mishaps are the only thing that the media will cover exhaustively, no matter who's in the White House.
