https://bsky.app/profile/kevinmkruse.bsky.social/post/3lh5qfq4uec2uMy mentions are filled with people insisting Senate Democrats are powerless.
Theyre not. They can throw up roadblocks by denying unanimous consent, forcing quorum calls, using holds and filibusters, etc
Its so easy to figure out even a dimwit like Tuberville managed to pull it off.
End snip
It only takes one Senator for a hold.

(268 posts)Democrats need to take lessons from Mitch McConnell as he sure knew how to slow down and defeat Obama and Biden's nominees.

(53,942 posts)His pressure campaign is already underway, with Trump posting on social media ahead of the Senate Republican leader election earlier this week that a majority leader "must agree" to allow for recess appointments if his nominees otherwise stall out during the confirmation process.

(5,784 posts)That the replacements, interim or recess appointments will be any better. He will get minions and they will do what he wants.
In some ways, I feel like it is better to have the name recognition of the current clowns because they will be easier to hold up to scrutiny.
If RFK Jr gets shot down, we will end up with someone with lower profile but just as evil that will fly further under the radar screen.
I know it sounds weak but for me the best thing to do is express ourselves about the dangers and vote against them. Then every single one of those statements and votes is an opportunity to tear them down later when things inevitably go south.
You get it 100%...Reality is always harder to swallow than emotional responses.
Trump is going to get his people in place one way or another, through strong-arming the Senate with primary threats, (which will become reality), recess appointments, or nominating even worse but more sedate nominees.

(36,538 posts)But that just means they need to have a vote on cloture. It doesn't mean they can't have a vote, just that a senator has indicated a 'no' vote when a vote by unanimous consent is taken. One 'no' = measure fails. Hence the cloture vote.
Tuberville put a hold on something like 1200 nominations. Holding a cloture vote for all 1200 would take forever.
Putting a hold on one or two nominations just means the senator would delay things for a day or two, or maybe even just a few hours.
