I'm seeing a lot of dire news about the bird flu on Twitter. Not going to link anything, just a heads up,

There are people recommending we stock up not only on powdered eggs and powdered milk, but meat for freezing because not only will chicken become scarce, that will put a strain on other forms of meat as well.

I guess I’m saying, worth doing some searches for the latest news on this. The sources I was reading seemed credible.

The conservatives are out to kill a mass of tax payers. Those remaining will have to support the billionaires.

4. Fortunately dairy cattle appear not to be severely affected (although that could change) and with

pasteurization, dairy products should remain low-risk. But, yeah, poultry and eggs are going to be increasingly scarce. And, thus far, there is little transmission to hogs--albeit they can be asymptomatically infected when they share water, housing, and equipment with poultry--or substantial exposure to wild birds. So, pork and beef (dairy) should be available, if more expensive.

I don't eat much meat and I've not had eggs in quite some time as there have been major shortages in Colorado--even before H5N1 began spreading more among source flocks. But, I can/will live off of fish, my own homemade yogurt, peanut butter, and beans/grains--along with fruits/produce. But, I'm betting Trump's supporters are going to be far less forgiving (or at least one would expect so of those non-cultists).

11. Some info on the effects in dairy cattle...

Not nearly as bad as in chickens, but still having an effect.

Common clinical signs in affected cows include low appetite, reduced milk production, and abnormal appearance of milk (thickened, discolored). Lactating cows have been most highly affected, and signs of illness have been reported in less than 10% of cows within a herd.

13. 10% affected... and they generally recover. As opposed to the entire poultry facility requiring culliing.

Milk testing positive is destroyed. Pigs are generally asymptomatic. All, as I said. Likewise, the virulence of impacts in cattle (and strain) could change. And, the exposure to unvaccinated human workers is a BIG concern (and the few doses of existing vaccine are certainly not going to be made available by the Trump administration and even more certainly not required for dairy and poultry workers). Now, THAT is an enormous risk for further spread in humans--not to mention RFK JR's pushing of raw milk--despite state requirements against sales and destruction in the presence of H5N1 positive testing or ill cattle.

Yes. "Most affected animals reportedly recover with supportive treatment, and the mortality/culling rate has been low at 2% or less on average. "

As opposed to the entire state of Georgia's poultry production now essentially closed down---the nation's largest producing state.

AVMA is correct. And there is no imminent decimation of the dairy industry as long as public health measures are taken. But, will they under Trump?

I did some research. None of them are winner, winner, chicken dinners.

Just Egg might be alright, but I can't find a powder form.

Red Mills, they said not to make scrambled eggs. well, I want the whole enchilada.

Neat egg - enough people do not like the taste to turn me off.

Any other suggestions?

8. Cheap protein can be found

Our deep freeze has 5 frozen turkeys we bought at Thanksgiving when they were really cheap. I found pork butt roasts for $0.49 a pound a few weeks ago, so I bought 6 and they went into the deep freeze. When we find chicken thighs or drumsticks for less than a dollar a pound, we stock up on those, too.
