how do we keep it real without falling to doomerism?

It's been years now since the last bout, but I struggled with suicidal ideations for broad stretches of my life. I feel like whenever things are turning around for me, something comes along to throw me off my feet again. This time it was the last election. I am tenaciously clinging to hope because the alternative looks like facing down another bout of wishing I would just drop dead or even better just to vanish like I never existed.

I've noticed the more privileged among us (us as in people I know in general, not limited to DU) seem more inclined to doomerism. The less privileged are more practiced at clinging to hope as sometimes it's the only thing carrying us from one day to the next. Just my observation. I come here looking for hope, community, information. But I've had to break from DU for a couple weeks for the sake of my mental health. Just sayin

They face a steep learning curve to learn what they must learn.

We cannot control or stop it.
We can hope for the best that lessons are learned and changes are made.

If it's looked upon as doom, that's fine with me, just don't call it gloom because I have not given up, I will fight the bastards every damn day.

What scares me are the people who want to hole up and let Trump destroy our democracy without a fight and then we can rebuild from the ashes.

Oligarchies are not permanent, they are transitional. There will come a time in the future when we will have to decide if we want to throw out the billionaires or become a country like Russia or Hungary.

Putin only served 2 terms because of the Russian Constitution, he then served 4 years as Prime Minister, he then zeroed out his 1st 2 terms to allow him to serve 2 more terms. Trump at his Las Vegas rally talked about serving 2 more terms.

it's the nihilistic editorializing and defeatist attitude I see a lot of that bothers me

Of making you feel this way.

This is where anger can be your best friend.

Channel those feelings into action to stop them.

Anything even small things will make you feel better.

I know.

I've been there.

PM me anytime.
