as the Secretary of Defense is that the Republican Party has abdicated all responsibility, along with their sworn duty, to prioritize the security of our Nation.
I already read people justifying his approval by saying that he will not run the department on his own and will rely on The Joint Chiefs of Staff which consist of the Chairman, the Vice Chairman, the Chief of Staff of the Army, the Chief of Naval Operations, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, the Chief of the National Guard Bureau and the Chief of Space Operations.
The reality is that we all know that loyalty to trump will decide who makes up the Joint Chiefs of Staff. So to have an unqualified Secretary of Defense and the possibility of having Tulsi Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence ( who's judgment has been called into question by her peers- I'm being nice) clearly puts our national security at risk and that doesn't appear to be any kind of issue at all with the Republican Party. The party appealing to an unstable individual is the only issue.
A question... If you were Putin of Russia or Xi Jinping of China with hopeful intentions of expanding Russia or taking back Taiwan what would you be thinking as you watch your largest deterrent putting its military in the hands of clearly incompetent people while, at the same time, unilaterally fomenting distrust with its own allies?
I think you know the answer.
As far as I can tell the entire Republican Party, along with anyone that supports it, are the greatest threat to our Nation and the sooner it becomes a relic of history the better. The problem is that it will not happen soon enough to stop the catastrophe that is coming.

(122,388 posts)Apart from also being melanin-deprived, of course (unless it's the one single Black job, HUD Secretary, because of course "urban" means "Black" since that's where those people live). So, in another predictable act of affirmative action for mediocre White people, we're getting a violent drunk with no relevant experience at DoD, a corrupt suck-up as AG, a Russian asset and Assad fangirl as DNI, an anti-vaxxer with brain worms for HHS, spectacularly inadequate Little Marco at State, a Cruella DeVille clone who's banned from Native reservations in her home state for DHS, a conspiracy theorist who hates the FBI as FBI Director, a fossil fuel advocate for DoE, an oil drilling enthusiast for Interior, and so on.
It's like they held a contest to see who could come up with the worst possible people. It's not only horrifying, it's agonizingly embarrassing. Trump's previous cabinet was a revolving door - few of them lasted more than a year - but if these numpties leave or get fired they'll be replaced with someone just as bad, or worse. I feel like God or karma or who/whatever is in charge (could it be...Satan?) is really fucking with us this time.

(122,388 posts)1. Being White (other non-Black minorities might be accepted if they're sufficiently obsequious).
2. Being male (female might be acceptable if said female is "hot" enough for a Fox News job).
3. Being straight and cis (if otherwise, keep that closet door closed and locked).
4. Being Christian, and it had better be of the evangelical type. No mercy-preaching Episcopalians allowed.
5. Being devoutly MAGA and proclaiming fealty to Dear Leader, loudly and often.
