Musk's grandparents were Nazis, who left Canada to move to South Africa to support apartheid

I'm sure Elon never read any of dear old grand dad's writings
Leave your life behind in Canada to be a part of the Apartheid movement.? Now that's dedication!

The billionaire has described his grandfather as a risk-taking adventurer. A closer read of history reveals something much darker.
By Joshua Benton

In Walter Isaacson’s new biography, Elon Musk, a mere page and a half is devoted to introducing Musk’s grandfather, a Canadian chiropractor named Joshua N. Haldeman. Isaacson describes him as a source of Musk’s great affection for danger—“a daredevil adventurer with strongly held opinions” and “quirky conservative populist views” who did rope tricks at rodeos and rode freight trains like a hobo. “He knew that real adventures involve risk,” Isaacson quotes Musk as having said. “Risk energized him.”
But in 1950, Haldeman’s “quirky” politics led him to make an unusual and dramatic choice: to leave Canada for South Africa. Haldeman had built a comfortable life for himself in Regina, Saskatchewan’s capital. His chiropractic practice was one of Canada’s largest and allowed him to possess his own airplane and a 20-room home he shared with his wife and four young children. He’d been active in politics, running for both the provincial and national parliaments and even becoming the national chairman of a minor political party. Meanwhile, he’d never even been to South Africa.

What would make a man undertake such a radical change? Isaacson writes that Haldeman had come “to believe that the Canadian government was usurping too much control over the lives of individuals and that the country had gone soft.” One of Haldeman’s sons has written that it may have simply been “his adventurous spirit and the desire for a more pleasant climate in which to raise his family.” But another factor was at play: his strong support for the brand-new apartheid regime.
An examination of Joshua Haldeman’s writings reveals a radical conspiracy theorist who expressed racist, anti-Semitic, and antidemocratic views repeatedly, and over the course of decades—a record I studied across hundreds of documents from the time, including newspaper clips, self-published manuscripts, university archives, and private correspondence. Haldeman believed that apartheid South Africa was destined to lead “White Christian Civilization” in its fight against the “International Conspiracy” of Jewish bankers and the “hordes of Coloured people” they controlled. (Gee his grandson grew up to say something very similar SNIPPED the following for reference)- When Musk tweets that George Soros “appears to want nothing less than the destruction of western civilization”—in response to a tweet blaming Soros for an “invasion” of African migrants into Europe—he is not the first in his family to insinuate that a wealthy Jewish financier was manipulating thousands of Africans to advance nefarious goals.)

“Instead of the Government’s attitude keeping me out of South Africa, it had precisely the opposite effect—it encouraged me to come and settle here,” he told a reporter for the South African newspaper Die Transvaler shortly after his arrival. The far-right Afrikaner newspaper treated Haldeman’s arrival as a PR victory for apartheid. (“PRAISES ACTION OF NATIONALIST PARTY REGIME: Canadian Politician Settles in South Africa,” the headline read.)
Musk’s grandfather spelled out his beliefs most clearly in a 1960 self-published book with the weighty title The International Conspiracy to Establish a World Dictatorship and the Menace to South Africa. (Its existence was first reported by Jill Lepore in The New Yorker.) Library databases indicate that there is only one copy in the Western Hemisphere, at Michigan State University, which is where I obtained it. In it, Haldeman wrote that there was
a strong possibility that South Africa will become the leader of White Christian Civilization as she is becoming more and more the focal point, the bulwark, and the subject of attack by anti-Christian, anti-White forces throughout the world.
She will fulfill this destiny if the White Christian people get together; if they realize the forces that are behind these world-wide attacks; if the people will make a study of who are their real enemies and what their methods are; if she will seriously combat the evils of Internationalism that are already taking cancerous roots in our society.

These views were on display before he set out for South Africa. The minor political party that Haldeman had led in Canada was notorious for anti-Semitism. In 1946, when one of the party’s newspapers printed the fraudulent The Protocols of the Elders of Zion—arguably the most consequential conspiracy text in the modern world—he defended the decision, arguing “that the plan as outlined in these protocols has been rapidly unfolding in the period of observation of this generation.” A local rabbi described Haldeman’s political speeches to the local newspaper as “shot through with anti-Semitic talk.”
Before that, he’d been a leader in a fringe political movement that called itself Technocracy Incorporated, which advocated an end to democracy and rule by a small tech-savvy elite. During World War II, the Canadian government banned the group, declaring it a risk to national security. Haldeman’s involvement with Technocracy continued, though, and he was arrested and convicted of three charges relating to it.
Once he got to South Africa, he added Black Africans to his list of rhetorical targets. “The natives are very primitive and must not be taken seriously,” he wrote back to his hometown Canadian newspaper in 1951. “Some are quite clever in a routine job, but the best of them cannot assume responsibility and will abuse authority. The present government of South Africa knows how to handle the native question.”

it was good for the environment. Turns out, it was just a way to power, money, and racism. The people really for the environment were the original inventors of Tesla who he forced out with his father's racist money.

About that father:

Before that, he’d been a leader in a fringe political movement that called itself Technocracy Incorporated, which advocated an end to democracy and rule by a small tech-savvy elite.

I suppose he planned to be a part of that tech-savvy elite. Or did he think some other tech-savvy people should rule over him? Funny how no one with these kinds of beliefs are ok with being the ruled in a non-democracy arrangement.

- see my OP and first reply at https://www.democraticunderground.com/100219714118 - but neither article was picked up by other media, and especially by MSNBC, as it should have been.

There was the same problem with stories about Curtis Yarvin.

Rachel Maddow waited until the night before the VP debate to tell her audience about Yarvin and his influence on JD Vance and Peter Thiel, Vance's enabler. She admitted she'd known about him for quite a while. My guess is that she waited to say anything about him because she thought her show about Yarvin, 24 hours before the debate, would be a bombshell and would dominate the headlines the next day, and make debate questions about Yarvin inevitable.

If that was why she waited, she miscalculated very badly. The CBS moderators would have had to spend a lot of time explaining to their audience just who Yarvin was, before that audience would understand why it was at all important to ask Vance about him. IF Maddow had started talking about Yarvin even a month earlier, she could have done a lot to help.

The Harris campaign also had laid absolutely no groundwork for an attack on Vance via revelations about the craziest tech bros behind him. Even though Gil Duran, who once worked for Harris as her communications director when she was California's AG in 2013, had been writing about this, warning people, and I doubt they were unaware of his articles and newsletters. Though I suppose it's possible they worried about an attack on Yarvin and his tech bro followers being mistaken for an attack on Silicon Valley in general. Maddow, if she'd given more time to this, could have gone after Yarvin and his followers with more precision and made it easier for the campaign to go after Vance on this issue.

I posted an OP since the election about Ron Filipkowski's explanation of why Democrats are having trouble with their messaging: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100219828367 . Republicans have much more of a media infrastructure than we have, and they bombard their audience with their chosen messages, and take cues from social media.

Maddow alone couldn't have gotten the word out. She isn't that influential. Every liberal host at MSNBC should have been doing stories on Yarvin and tech bro fanaticism. I don't know why they didn't, and I hope to God there wasn't some "Leave this to Rachel to do an expose the night before the VP debate" agreement.

This wasn't the first time liberal media failed to cover an important story. Their failure to cover ALEC properly even while it was doing so much damage - https://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x591230 - really hurt Democrats across the country.

You are right, we need other voices besides Rachel to do this work. And yes I wish she had talked about Yarvin before the debate. She should cover the tech bros and their history, the way she covered ULTRA and the history of previous insurrections and Henry Ford supporting Hitler.

I don't know how we beat the GOP and their vast media/social media propaganda machine..We need to figure that out quickly. Perhaps Hollywood should get more involved with churning out positive propaganda?? From movies to documentaries - people like to be entertained. Which is probably why trump is well liked by many and why people will get their news from Joe Rogan and Shannon Sharpe.

In the 80's there were a ton of movies that depicted Russian bad guys, which subconsciously reinforced our belief that Russia was the enemy. Then the Hollywood villains shifted to Middle Eastern bad guys, and Hollywood made a ton of films about Middle Eastern terrorists. Perhaps it's time to start making films and documentaries, series about the tech bros.
Spielberg bought the rights to Rachel's Ultra Podcast, so there will be a movie at some point. Movies take a long time to make. It would be nice if there were shorter series that took this on.
The article I posted reads like blueprint for a movie script. Successful doctor packs up his family to move to South Africa to be a part of the Apartheid movement. In 1936 he wanted to destroy democracy and thought technocrats should rule. Almost 100 years later his grandson seems to be on the same path.

I thought the series Watchmen was amazing - It was the first time many Americans found out about the Tulsa Massacre- A similar series should be done to take this on. Not only did it take on the Tulsa Massacre, but in so many ways it exposed the white supremacy often entrenched in police departments and in " high society". When I saw the picture of the crowd reacting to Musk's nazi salute, I immediately thought of a scene in Watchmen with all the high society folks that had their secret meetings. The folks shown in that pic applauding and cheering, were not poor folks.

Of course, that does not replace serious journalism. But anything to get people talking and engaging about some of these things. Too many are disengaged and don't see the danger we are in.

I've also wondered how Maye got her green card. She went on a rant about how people should do it the right way and she got hers due to her years of hard work and special knowledge, or something to that effect. Excuse me? Special knowledge? I am not demeaning dietitians, but it seems like Maye, Melania and Elon gamed the system and then claim they did it the right way.

only to have Nazis now in control of our lives and fortunes is too sickening to bear. If anyone lost a loved one or suffered through WWII and ended up with wounded family members they should be ashamed of themselves if they voted for Trump or supported him and his regime of Senators and House members in any way. But since most of them don't read and don't know history, I guess they feel no shame.

The more that comes out about Musk and his family, the more contempt I feel for Walter Isaacson's biography. It pretends to be critical at points, but is essentially an exercise in public relations and an unserious whitewash.

His own facts give him the hebbie jeebies. Even though the articles about him don’t explicitly say he’s an Apartheid trust fund baby. Anyone who has some reading comprehension and a faint spark of critical thinking can piece what he’s hiding and has spent millions on PR and intimidation to cover up.
