Thanks for this. One comment on the negotiation of temporary housing in a second home situation. Don’t let them underestimate the time necessary to manage the rebuild. Trips to meet with contractors, work that the owners may choose to complete themselves, meeting with contractors and suppliers at the home location, in addition to the vacation days lost in the home which as includes extended family members which is the purpose of many second homes. My guess is that managing demolition, and construction would have more than eaten up the days allotted in this situation.

I have known someone who lost their house to a fire and they had very good insurance, but some of what she says resonated with the experience she described. The record of belongings is very important... keep receipts and make a video, for instance. The rebuilding of my friend's home took two years, btw.
