The infrastructure below thousands of homes is compromised. They have teams out testing the ground as we speak.

Happens after every wildfire. By the time the rains come the roots that hold the top layers of soil in place are dried and weakened.
Rains come. Swoosh. Sudden change in perspective for the high and mighty on their perches.
Malibu parties are known for mass wasting. How ironic.

(123,919 posts)the fire(s) and had neighbour's behind them who were not so lucky. Then what was left of the destroyed homes put so much pressure on the surviving houses below them that they split in half.
Saw a report on water from burst pipes are in the mix too. But yeah it is that the foliage is gone and not holding the hills together. It will be worse if it rains.
