I've heard of elderly guys doing this in other states too, robbing a bank so they can live the rest of their lives in jail rather than homeless.

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - A man suspected of robbing a bank told police hed recently lost his job and would rather be in jail than be homeless, according to a criminal complaint.
Martin Schiedermayer, 63 of Appleton, is accused of robbing a Wells Fargo bank in Appleton on Tuesday morning.

I wouldn't worry about copy-cats. There are people who don't function well outside of prison, so they commit crimes to get back in.
