Coons Says He's 'Still Considering' Voting to Confirm Pam Bondi: It's a 'Close Call'

Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) told CNN on Thursday that he was “still considering” voting to confirm President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general nominee Pam Bondi.

Bondi, who previously served as attorney general of Florida, was grilled on Wednesday by Democratic senators over her past representation of Trump during his efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election, the president-elect’s ongoing denial of President Joe Biden’s victory in that race, and Trump’s nomination of Kash Patel to head the FBI.

Coons appeared on CNN Newsroom Thursday afternoon and was asked by Brianna Keilar what he thought about Bondi so far and if he was considering supporting her nomination.

The senator said that in his private meeting with Bondi and then again at the confirmation hearing Wednesday he said to her “the most important thing I needed to hear from her was whether or not she would be independent, whether or not she would protect the Department of Justice from direct interference by the White House or President-Elect Trump.”

we're not high priced consultants and most of us don't have enough money to matter beyond occasional lip service around election time. (I never matter as I do not live in a swing state)

I'm becoming kind of...mean, I guess.

That should be disqualifying. The person is known to be a liar.

to Secretary of State, Senator, and First Lady Clinton.

I hope he doesn't come to them looking for help in his next election.

... most of the time. The times when she slipped into lawyerly lies were when she showed she, "would ... not... protect the Department of Justice from direct interference by the White House or President-Elect Trump." In my opinion, she clearly does not meet Coons' standard! And, it's her most painfully obvious fault!

OF COURSE she’s lying. Trump wouldn’t have picked her otherwise. I always liked Coons; he seemed like a straight shooter. I can’t imagine why he is even remotely considering confirmation of this horrible woman.

At least they can say they live in red states and likely facing an uphill battle for re election down the road. I can’t think of any GD reason a senator from Delaware would vote for this moron.

Same place. Same thing. No new strategies here, just same old, same old, because it's worked so well before. Uh-huh. And folks wonder why 9 million more people stayed home last election than in 2020.

What's that definition of insanity again?

She should not be taking this position because she represented Agent Orange in his individual capacity. This sets up a conflict, because as Atty General, she would be representing the U.S. Breach of a lawyers' code of ethics.

There are only a few of Trump’s nominees who are in any danger of not being confirmed (Patel, Kennedy, Gabbard). Bondi isn't one of them.
