President Biden has been an amazing POTUS and is also a good person. Back in 2019, I got to meet President Biden in person at two fundraisers. At the time, the Biden campaign needed money. I got to discuss stuttering with President Biden and got a Biden hug. President Biden also told me about the 20 or so young stutters who President Biden keeps track of. President Biden and I both discuss that the stutter comes back at times when we are tired. I watched the only 2024 debate and as a stutterer I could tell that many on the supposed mistakes made by President Biden were him dealing with the stutter. I posted on this back at the time.
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100219071415 I was sad to see President Biden step down and still think that President Biden would have been a great POTUS in a second term. (Please understand that Kamala Harris ran a great campaign and should have beaten trump but for the general public's unhappiness with inflation and the economy.)
I was a Clinton delegate to the 2016 National Convention and part of the materials I brought back were floor speech signs that they passed out before each speech. President Biden signed three of the floor speech signs from his speech at the National Convention. One of these signs he inscribed one of his favorite phrases "Keep the Faith." When President Biden used that phrase at the end of his speech, I teared up.

God bless you all, and may God protect our troops. Thank you for this great honor.
The use of that phrase really hit me hard
I am sad to see President Biden leave office and think that he will go down in history as a truly great president. I am so glad that President Biden tried to warn us about oligarchies and TFG's dangers to our democratic form of government.

(19,552 posts)Not as involved to ever be a delegate, but I've volunteered off & on for Dem presidential candates since Humphrey at 15 yrs old.
My coolest event was after doing volunteer work at WJC's NYC HQ in '92 I was asked election night if I wanted to help decorate the Sheraton Ballroom.
"Sure!", said I. I don't remember but I must have voted earlier in the day (I often vote in the evening).
The hotel is orientated east to west on an Avenue block as I now think about. Pertinent to the experience- the Grand Ballroom can be divided in 3 rooms. Maybe they also did a 2 room wide space, and a 1 room configuration.
I just realized revisualizing the event right now (and I actually went home, and drew it up with text); that, that grand ballroom totally opened; was actually, like, 2 NYC street city blocks long! 😄 :surprisedhappy: emoji. On some level I never totally, consciously got that. I was describing the event to a fellow Dem today.
😄No wonder, everyone looked "tiny" way in the front on, or by the stage, when I went to the back ?quarter my, or back fifth of it where the chairs were to sit for a bit!
So we put up signs, bunting, and probably R, W & B crepepaper streamers. There was a big screen on the stage for projecting a TV image.
There were also 6, or 8 TV's set up on stands (think of those of us old enough like in grade school for the NASA astro rocket launches). We tied R, W, & B helium balloons on to them. Another realization...
[Wow.....s-l-o-w 😁] with the big crowd of people; this would help people find the TV's more easily.
So in front of the stage was a big open space. Then there were a set of bleachers for the videographers, and photographers.
To the left were a long set of tables for reporters. Then the rest was a big, open space were the TV's were spaced, till the very back where chairs, and tables were.
It was a grand, and exciting experience! 😄🎉

(157,012 posts)Normally going to a national convention is a once in a lifetime experience. I had worked really hard inside the party on campaigns and voter protection issues for a very long time to be in the position to run for and be elected as delegate. Too bad that Sanders and his vetted delegates ruined that experience and did their best to help TFG. A candidate has absolute approval rights over their pledged delegates because these delegates can change their votes and these delegates represent the candidate and campaign. I helped vet Clinton delegates and I know that I was vetted. The Clinton campaign told us that we represent her and that our actions would reflect on her and her campaign.
In contrast, Sanders sent one very weak text the Sunday night before the convention and then did little or nothing to control his delegates. It was nasty I was there when the Sanders delegates booed Congressman John Lewis., Elijah Cummings and Stacy Abrams. I was warned about each of these stunts 30 minutes before it happened by my Clinton campaign whip. According to my whip, Sanders was asked to stop this event and declined.
I was at the Texas delegation breakfast when a group of Sanders delegates marched in and demanded that we condemn Clinton and change our votes to Sanders.
Sanders spoke to the Texas delegation the next morning and his speech was again solely about himself. There was a mini-riot due to his delegates the prior morning and the only thing that Sanders talked about was himself. Sanders did nothing to deal with the fact that his delegates were out of control and did nothing to try to help Hillary Clinton win the general election.
Finally, a group of Sanders delegates yelled at my daughter and called her the c-Word because she would not try to get me to change my vote. My daughter was my guest and she got to attend the first night and see Michelle Obama. Again, Sanders was asked to tell his delegates to behave during the convention and Sanders refused.
Texas may change the way it selects delegates next cycle, and I will see if I want to run. I was a day one contributor to Joe Biden and got to meet Joe Biden at two different private fundraisers. I was amused when Joe signed some floor speech signs from his speech at the 2016 convention while not missing a beat talking to another guest. Joe then took my iPhone took three selfies with me better than I could do. One of the floor speech signs were inscribed with "Keep the Faith." At the next fundraiser, I had maxxed out for the primary and so got to talk to Joe about stuttering.
The process of running for and getting elected to be a delegate to a national convention takes a great deal effort and you still have to be vetted before you are an official delegate. I have friends who were at the 2008 and 2012 conventions, and they had a good time. Time will tell if I try again.

(19,552 posts)I had a physical sress reaction for the 2 previous days (2 factors [1 drumphf]), recovering today (Much better!).
So even though I read your post, I need another 1, or 2 go through, to properly comment.
But, oh, boy, the Bernie stuff. I like some of what he says alot, and sometimes he does not go about actions in a ?more productive fashion, know better when to drop something, and when to keep pushing. There are times to be really assertive (ie: I'm thinking of the alternate Mississippi Delegates in '68 [it was the first convention I was watching , and reading about at 15 yrs old - on vacation in a hotel with my parents, and younger sister. So it was challenging to keep up w stuff that I didn't know that much about]). Maybe other times to let things go
My pov has been he should have been more vocal, and supportive to Hillary earlier, and told his delegates to tone it down, or totally cool it.
Anyway I will pursue your reply again. 👍
Enjoy your Alternative TV, or doing alternative activities, taking in some MLK tributes etc.
I'll be doing a mix of the above. No drinking (meds) Sigh, ohhh, well. 👍
