"Design for Disaster" 1961 documentary about the Bel Air conflagration. (26 minutes)

Very interesting 26 minute film made by the LAFD after the 1961 fire.

It illustrates the Santa Ana winds, also called The Devil winds. It illustrates how water runs dry in hydrants. Good illustrations and explanations. This fire even jumped the 405 freeway which would be considered a fire break. But when the winds are so strong and they carry chunks of embers a mile or more no fire break is big enough.

But instead, they'd had 1/16 of an inch of rain since May.
