Raw Story - 'Not good for the Jews': Onlookers gobsmacked as Mel Gibson becomes 'Hollywood ambassador'Sarah K. Burris

Ambassadors are usually appointed to serve as representatives to strengthen relationships between their nation and other countries. Donald Trump has come up with the unique idea of appointing right-wing actors to be his "ambassadors to Hollywood."
Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight will serve in the newly-created positions which Trump linked to a claim that Hollywood "has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries."
One of the picks, in particular, triggered reaction.

"Mel Gibson as Special Ambassador to Hollywood is like making Jared Fogle Special Ambassador to Candyland," joked criminal defense lawyer Ken White.
The Daily Show responded to the news saying, "Trump: Okay, day one, no bad ideas. What are your ideas to -- Mel Gibson: NO MORE JEWS."
The Bulwark's Sam Stein noted, "Mel Gibson, having a moment. Not good for the Jews."

(22,668 posts)Why does this bother him? According to the right, Hollywood is evil, so you'd think Trump would be happy to see it lose business.
I don't remember him campaigning on Making Hollywood Great Again.

(57,315 posts)He's still so damn salty and red-assed that 95% of Hollywood is liberal and stumped for Kamala...
It's not enough that Hollywood revenue drops (extra credit for Donnie being oddly specific with that bullshit "last four years" line), Donnie wants to end careers and have Hollywood figures tried and convicted of "being too woke" or "having too much DEI" or "being political enemies" or whatever.
For starters, another star-studded HUAC hearings circus dragging out for months would be the biggest media distraction since the Johnny Depp trial... Secondly, it throws a pre-emptive bucket of cold water on any A-list Hollywood celebrities who might be thinking about dabbling in presidential politics in 2028... FWIW, I've been floating the idea of Dems running a celebrity in 2028 and the DNC is probably at least thinking about it... If the electorate is this fucking shallow now; if all they want are vibes and entertainment from our highest office might as well give it to them...

Trump does not know anything about film history.
He talks about the Golden Age.
The greatest year in Hollywood was 1939
This has more to do with Trumps xenophobia
He did not like it when South Korean film Parasite won Best Picture in 2020.

A lot of great films directed in 1939 were directed by European immigrants
For example, Wuthering Weights was directed by William Wyler.
