I considered running for public office but realized that I'm not a convicted felon. I don't have a drinking or drug problem. Only been married once. Don't cheat on my spouse. Not a racist. Not a misogynist. Not a bigot. I don't hurt children. I'm not a rich, white male with self esteem and anger issues.
Unfortunately, because of all those things, I came to the realization that the American people will never believe I'm qualified for the position.

If you are overqualified then I am too, but that also means that the majority of Ds are, too! No wonder most of us feel there's no hope.

Renting right now but once we find a place to settle in and buy a home, it's my intention to run for office but I do actually fear the exact sentiment you expressed.

I am not a sexual deviant and I pride myself on telling the truth and being honest with people.
I also believe in rule of law.
I also cannot stand for people or animals to suffer.
And I am not willing to ruin people for cash.

(15,150 posts)a young man (early 20s I think) ran for a state house seat in KS. He was a democrat and he was awful. He had harassed and made threats against a young woman he previously dated. I have no idea how he got elected by the people of KS. He also got into fights with his brother and I believe his grandfather after he was in office. He was removed from office before he served out his term-thankfully.
