The official spoke to the BBC as Israeli media reported Hamas had introduced last-minute demands to the ceasefire deal - moments before Qatar was due to hold a news conference on the state of the talks.
The reports in Israeli media said it had issued fresh demands about the Philadelphi Corridor - a strategically important strip of land along Gaza's southern border with Egypt.

(35,500 posts)Is this not a "true" ceasefire? Was the November 2023 ceasefire "true"?

(2,139 posts)That Netanyahu will add new conditions like last time and sabotage an almost-there agreement. It will be presented as Hamas' fault of course and that will be echoed by Israel's supporters. And Trump of course.
I don't think a ceasefire is what Israel wants.

(3,328 posts)I could be wrong.
I assumed that the Israeli people (not Bibi) want peace/cease fire.

(2,139 posts)Just a few hours ago I was reading that Israel claimed there was a snag.
But it's official now, both sides have announced a deal!!
Imagine the rejoicing and relief!

(21,363 posts)which would mean they did not agree to the same proposal. We have seen them do this before.
Hopefully that report is not accurate and an agreement can be made to release the hostages and stop the fighting.

(2,139 posts)It was Israel that added two MAJOR conditions in July/ August at the last minute. Netzarim and Philadelphi. Scuttled the deal.
But sure, Hamas may have added new conditions at some point too. Maybe you have details, I don't. Though there was that time a rogue Egyptian official inserted something without anyone's agreement.
But I rejoice and hope for honest dealing from both sides.

(2,139 posts)Trump just announced it.
sarisataka
(21,363 posts)that he would claim credit. However, if that is the price of hostage freedom and saving Palestinian lives, it is bearable. Everyone with half a brain knows he did nothing.

(2,139 posts)But I agree absolutely!
But because Trump is involved, and I don't trust Israel's right-wing or Netanyahu - I am not dancing in the streets yet. But I bring all the optimism I have, for today.

(21,363 posts)I don't trust Trump, Likud or Netanyahu. I hope after a deal is done Israel will have elections fairly soon to install a much more moderate government.
For today we can sit side by side, sip our beverages and hope

(11,509 posts)The Prime Ministers Office tells reporters that contrary to reports, Hamas has not yet provided negotiators with its final response to the ceasefire-hostage release deal outline.
Qatari, US and Egyptian negotiators have been working for weeks to secure a deal, with Israeli and Arab officials offering cautious optimism over the past 48 hours that a deal is close to being inked.
