“With No Direction Home…” Can We Really Live Like This?
by Jaime O’Neill | January 14, 2025 - 6:32am

snip//

By the time the man who had spent so much time dividing us was re-elected we no longer seemed to know what to think, or our ass from a hole in the ground. We no longer knew where to turn for strength, confidence, or reassurance. There was nothing we could trust. At the beginning of the century, the media had told us Rudy Giuliani was “America’s Mayor,” the guy who had marched around the streets of New York with a bull horn, making a show of himself as a made-for-TV hero. By the time Trump, a convicted felon who had evaded punishment for an array of very serious crimes, was about to assume the office of the President for a do-over, Giuliani had shown himself to be a vicious little rat, a mere henchman devoted to undermining faith in our elections.

The newly elected POTUS had run a campaign in which his ear had been grazed by an assassin’s bullet before he went on to conduct the rest of his campaign as if it had been conceived in an insane asylum, a bad vaudeville routine that included him dancing to the Village People and other recorded music from personal favorites on his phone. Other than that, it was just whine, whine, whine.

Could we actually live in a country like this, having seen so many of our family and friends swept into support for such a man? And with the opposition so ineffective at pushing back against the madness arrayed against them, where could we turn for hope anymore? We couldn’t run and we couldn’t hide. Our economy was threatened by radical changes in tariffs and taxes. We were going to round up and deport millions of the men who mowed our lawns, put roofs on our homes, or harvested our produce. And we were going to do that with all the meanness and cruelty we could muster. We were going deport millions of women who nursed us back to health when we were sick, or taught our kids, or made our beds. And we were going to throw their children out with them, even if they’d been born here.

We were going to put the worst and most incompetent people in charge of our military, our health, our intelligence services, and the education of our children. Donald Trump Jr.'s former main squeeze was going to be an ambassador to Greece. Beyond that, it began to get seriously weird.

Could a corporation, let alone a country, long survive, let alone prosper? Tune in after the inauguration. Washington, Lincoln, and FDR will be spinning in their graves.

We are a colony of Russia. The chain of command is;

Putin
Musk
Trump

Stop thinking of America as a democracy:

To that point, the international democracy and human rights advocacy and watchdog organization Freedom House gave the United States 83 points in its annual ranking of freedom around the world. This is similar to countries such as Croatia, Panama and Romania. Mongolia and Argentina, for example, scored higher than the United States.

What the FBI did with the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation, covering up his sexual predations, it is doing the same with the Pete Hegseth confirmation, covering up for him.

All of Trump's nominations who are threats to our national security will be confirmed and I do not see Senate Democrats fighting hard enough to stop them.

The FBI is controlled by Trump/Musk/Putin. The United States is about to confirm a man to be Secretary of Defense who wants us to get out of the Geneva Convention, who wants our military to be immune from prosecution for war crimes.

Kakistocracy is not a strong enough word, although it applies.

Greek kakistos, worst, superlative of kakos, bad; see CACO- + -CRACY.

It's a page worth reading, and a concept worth study, in my estimation.
