Donald Trump is coming back into office this month on a vow to initiate the largest mass deportation operation in American history, and says he plans to unleash the U.S. military to help him do it. But according to three sources familiar with internal policy discussions in Trumps circle, the president-elect and several of his key lieutenants are aware that their desired, larger-scale crackdowns which could involve a new network of militarized camps will take significant time to execute.
In the meantime, Trump and his incoming anti-immigration crew have plans to fill the gaps in part by leaning heavily into generating relentless propaganda and (as one Trump transition official puts it) media spectacle that many of them hope will cause undocumented immigrants to flee the country and persuade migrants not to come to America.
The racist terror campaign that Team Trump unleashed on the Haitian community of Springfield, Ohio, will likely serve as a model for what the Trump White House has in store for immigrants across America. And its a model that pro-immigration attorneys and nonprofit organizations are getting ready to combat, to counter such a widespread media spectacle and potential onrush of misinformation that could very well do some of Trumps immigration-crackdown work for him.

(17,663 posts)So Trump can count on Meta and X/Twitter to push this racist propaganda. I wonder if these ads or whatever they will be will also be across the major networks. He will probably also send advisors and cabinet picks out to do interviews.
Sounds really ugly.

(11,927 posts)not to actually round up millions of immigrants and send them packing. A few high-profile televised raids on FOX News of immigrants being dragged away, and a lot of loud, tough talk on the WH lawn as Chopper 1 prepares to take him on another golf excursion will be enough to fool his hate-filled, bloodthirsty followers. Meanwhile, it will be business as usual for all the corporations that rely on undocumented workers to remain profitable, and his tech-bro supporters will get more of their H-1B workers.
Think of this as Trump's "Deportation Week."

(760 posts)This could lead to even more hate crimes and the incarceration of non white American citizens. Fear might motivate them to move to another country. Not that these knuckle dragging trumpers would mind that at all... They would just see that as an added benefit.

(22,478 posts)It worked last time, it will work again. We had the leading post covid recovery in the world so people came here for work. No surprise. Lose a lot of jobs and there isn't as many reasons to come.
