General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo the DUers that bash Liz Cheney for a recent brave comment realize that her life is in danger?
The usual comments: she is a Republican, her daddy is a war criminal, the usual F**k Cheney. How pathetic, how irresponsible. It was not just her career that she sacrificed; Trump wants to put her in front of a firing squad. Oh, that’s the way he talks, someone will say. But we already know that there are too many idiots who take what he says as a command.
What happened to the “if you cannot say something nice just keep your mouth shut?”
Is this the new 2025 face of DU?

(894 posts)I couldn't stand Liz Cheney's politics, but I really do respect her courage in standing up to Trump and trying to hold him accountable, especially since she knows full well the dire consequences she might have to face once he returns to power.
Liz Cheney is that rare Republican who puts country before party and who values the rule of law.

(1,400 posts)Secret. Service protection?
question everything
(49,937 posts)Vice presidents typically do not have Secret Service protection after their term of service is up, unless some threat or danger exists. If the vice president runs for the office of president, however, he or she — and all other major candidates in the primary and general presidential election — are likely to receive protection. Just how soon this is provided may be based in part on the profile of the candidate and any possible early threats, which are not that uncommon, to a candidate’s life.

(18,315 posts)people who in actual reality couldn't do what she did if they were in her shoes.
We say that we value alliances, and depend on them when autocracy flourishes. That means having the backs of people like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger and other "Never Trumpers" who have come to our aid over the past four years. MAGA will go against them hard and early. In the Rwandan genocide, the Hutus didn't go after the Tutsis until after they had eliminated Hutus who were Tutsi sympathizers.
Thanks

(54,989 posts)about Cheney. I agree with her on very, very few issues, but I admire the way she has stood up for Democracy. I respect her for that.

(58,204 posts)Makes me wonder what I am doing here anymore. While our numbers get smaller, I blame this past election on the peoples numbers that grow bigger. That does not bode well for the Democratic party or democracy for that matter.

(10,447 posts)I'm just tired of hearing it. We should be talking about Democrats and talking about how we can help each other in the times to come. Not playing sycophant to a Republican that voted with Trump 90% of the time and once accused Democrats of killing babies after they were born.
never going to compitulate to Republicans, people that want to force little girls to have their rapist's baby. Never.

(10,447 posts)When Republicans are cheering the military invasion of our closest allies and friends.
When Democrats in office are largely silent about the Republican desire to invade our closest allies and friends.
When reporters treat the clear desire of Republicans to invade our closest allies and friends as if they were talking about a minor trade dispute.
When I come to DU to listen to fellow Democrats praise a Republican.
Hell ya I'm angry.

I'm still partly in shock. And furious, at times, too. Folks have a right to say what they need to say.
I can't quite believe this is gonna happen on J20, myself.
.I'm also reading what others are trying to fathom "what are we going to do" ie Congress, Dem voters etc
